2016 Landour Mela #3

With a wave of enthusiasm sweeping through the charming streets of Landour, the third edition of the Landour Mela blossomed into a spectacular event, buoyed by the unwavering support from local shop owners and a sprinkle of good fortune. This year, the Mela was officially integrated into the activities of the Mussoorie Winterline Carnival, elevating its status and transforming it into a highly anticipated day event for all. In an instant, visitors flocked to the iconic Char Dukaan, making the Mela a vibrant hub of excitement, laughter, and community spirit, paving the way for the beloved two-day free walk-in festival we cherish today.

Each day of the Mela was an adventure, meticulously curated to engage audiences of all ages. The Heritage Walks organised exclusively for Landour Mela brought adults and children alike on journeys through the historical landscapes of Landour Cantonment and Bazar. Conducted by the knowledgeable walk leader of the Mussoorie Heritage Centre in collaboration with Café Terra, these walks were gateways to the past, revealing the rich tapestry of stories woven into the fabric of Landour's history.

A special note of gratitude resonated for DFO Mr. Niraj Sharma, Mussoorie Div. whose insightful presentations illuminated the wondrous Mussoorie forests. Participants were treated to engaging nature walks through the serene Brookland Estate, where they learned about the local ferns, the importance of conservation, and how these initiatives directly contribute to the well-being of the region’s farmers and villagers.

The Mela extended its connection with nature, incorporating birdwatching sessions at the Mussoorie Wildlife Sanctuary in Benog Forest. These Nature Activities were a delightful surprise for attendees registered for the Landour Mela and the Winterline Carnival, fostering an appreciation for the vibrant ecosystems that surrounded them.

By this year, the Landour Mela had blossomed to house 18 splendid stalls, each a vibrant representation of local culture. Offerings included an array of natural foods, exquisite hand-crafted clothing, and mouth-watering local delicacies, creating a culinary and artisanal celebration that left no guest unfulfilled. The festival also featured unique artistic expressions, with local artist groups that added layers of creativity to the event atmosphere.
